Fine for desktop gaming but lacking somewhat in VR performance.
#Il 2 sturmovik battle of stalingrad amd rx 480 performance driver
That's before we get into things like nVidia having the pick of the hardware and software engineers in the industry, as well as the biggest R&D budget, so AMD can never catch up either on raw silicon functionality and performance/watt or driver quality.ĪMD GPUs are not worth it for VR imo. There is literally no reason to choose AMD over nVidia except for price (which is pretty much negated over the card's lifetime by increased energy usage). The fact that AMD buyers are so price-sensitive (or fiercely pro-AMD or anti-nVidia) means that they are never a demographic you would chase as a developer (over mainstream choice nVidia). There is never enough demand on AMD to mean it gets first implementation and never enough time to wait until both are ready before releasing. That means nothing will ever work as well initially, and sometimes AMD support will either come months/years later or not at all. That means that literally every development decision means implement first on nVidia and if there is significant demand, implement later on AMD. As a VR developer (with both AMD and nVidia) I can tell you that the spread is in the region of 80-nVidia 20-AMD. Unless you are on a tight budget (in which case, Index is probably not a good choice), always take nVidia for VR.
